Mylène Tanferri is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Science and Technology Studies working at the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and multispecies studies. Her broad interests concern perceptual and representational practices, how we agree on what is “good,” and how these practices are co-constituted with digital technologies. Her current research focuses on sustainability claims in digital innovation for agriculture and multispecies encounters mediated by technologies.
She currently leads her project SUSTS-CLAIMS, funded by a Stars@UNIPD grant, tracing how networks around specific Agtech projects in Switzerland and Italy help shape definitions of sustainability in digital agriculture. Previously, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellow at the IT University of Copenhagen (2024–2026) for her project DIGIPHYT (a multi-site, multispecies ethnography of plant sensor development), and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lausanne (2021–22) with the project “Patrimonialisation du Direct” (PI Dominique Vinck), where she also obtained her PhD in social sciences in 2021.
She has published in SociologieS, New Sociological Perspectives, TSANTSA, and Études de Communication, and contributed a chapter to the Elgar Encyclopedia of Science and Technology Studies (with Vinck, 2024). She is currently editing a collective volume titled “Sciences, Technologies, Multispecies: Fieldwork Approaches to a Multiplicity of Agents.”
